Brazilian artist Ana Elisa Egreja fuses Dutch Golden Age still life with collage-like juxtapositions, placing cellophane-wrapped snacks alongside fresh produce. Her interiors become stages for migration, with birds as symbols of freedom moving between gold-leafed windows and beaded curtains. The paintings pulse with sunset gradients and ornate patterns, questioning boundaries between wild and domestic.

Egreja’s first U.S. solo exhibition, The Flight of Color, presents 15 oil paintings that render space as fluid and transnational. Her use of 24-karat gold leaf and wrought grilles nods to architectural thresholds, while sculptural elements like a beaded curtain extend the canvas into the viewer’s realm. The work is a lush meditation on cross-cultural exchange and the illegibility of borders to non-human creatures.
