Dancing About Architecture: On Time

Film

In On Time, artist duos studiosyn_ and Gerard & Kelly transform Émile Sala’s 1974 Villa Benkemoun into a stage for temporal exploration. The short film reinterprets their live performance ‘Clockwork,’ using the villa’s asymmetric, curving forms to mirror the accumulation and spiral of memory. Performers appear in and out of sync, their movements echoing the architecture's intimate domesticity.

The collaboration, developed by Bureau Future, turns the villa into an instrument measuring a day’s cycle. Shadows and reflections double the performers, their ambiguous relationship left unexplained, allowing the architecture itself to take center stage. This cinematic response restores a sense of lived experience to a modernist icon.
