Art

In her new series, Erin Milez paints subway platforms, streets, and beaches packed with people who never quite meet each other’s eyes. Her flattened, patterned surfaces and warm light evoke WPA murals and George Tooker’s quiet alienation. Milez’s cropped figures suggest a contemporary condition: proximity without contact.

Milez moved from New York to Seattle, and the shift sharpened her attention to how bodies share space. Textured brushwork and golden hues give otherwise claustrophobic scenes a meditative calm. The show, titled Everything the Light Touches, runs at Monya Rowe Gallery through October 24.
