London-based studio Eastend Western animates five of Isamu Noguchi’s unbuilt playground proposals using a painstaking cel animation process. Over 1,800 transparent celluloid frames were painted by hand with vinyl acrylic, each brushstroke left visible to create a gentle vibration. The result feels like a moving painting, matching the tactile quality of Noguchi’s own models.

Rather than offering a polished architectural rendering, the films embrace ambiguity and playfulness. They imagine children swinging, sliding, and discovering these sculptural landscapes, inviting viewers to experience the works as living spaces. This handcrafted approach gives the unbuilt projects a second life, honoring Noguchi’s idealism while sparking new imagination.
