This 70-centimetre-tall limestone carving is a striking abstract composition: a human figure mounted on a leopard, found on a bench within a stone-built structure at Karahan Tepe. The arrangement of forms, with the animal's body supporting the rider, creates a powerful silhouette that stands out among Pre-Pottery Neolithic artworks.
The statue's unique iconography, described as unlike anything previously encountered, offers a rare glimpse into early symbolic thought. Its discovery in a votive context adds mystery. The reverse arrangement of a 2021 find suggests a deliberate visual dialogue, making this both a compelling artifact and a layered piece of early creative expression.
