Curated by artist Eric Fischl, 'The Ark' assembles 50+ artists and nearly 90 animal sculptures inside the vast Powerhouse Arts warehouse on the Gowanus Canal. From Kiki Smith's bronze sentry to Maurizio Cattelan's pigeons roosting on beams, the exhibition transforms the industrial space into an immersive, floor-to-ceiling menagerie.
The exhibition frames environmental crisis through the myth of the ark, asking whether we will care for our planet as we do for animals. Sited beside an EPA Superfund site in Brooklyn, the post-industrial setting heightens the tension between reverence and destruction, making the encounter both intimate and urgent.
