Design

APFEL's graphics for V&A East Museum in Stratford are a masterclass in contextual design. The 'Why We Make' exhibition is introduced by a striking illuminated sign with a bespoke stencil font made from LED strips, echoing East London's industrial heritage. The typography's modular, geometric strokes reflect the act of making itself, breaking letterforms down to their basic components.

The studio engaged the V&A Youth Collective as co-designers, embedding community into the process. The signage flows naturally with the interior architecture, fostering a seamless visitor experience. This project demonstrates how graphic design can enhance a museum's narrative while honoring local history and contemporary creativity.
