Isak Chung and Jinpyo Hong transform a 1968 Seoul residence by opening its core into a courtyard and reinforcing the existing structure with timber. The renovation adds an annex on the southern side and turns a leftover air-raid shelter into usable lower-level space, making the most of a landlocked urban plot.

Named after the traditional Korean patchwork technique saekdong, the design lets contrasting materials and eras sit side by side without blending them into uniformity. Old walls meet new timber, and the heavy gable is swapped for a lighter one. The result feels intentionally assembled, turning quirks into domestic character.
