Installation
Studio Hug and artist Rachele Monti transform a 19th-century laundry building in Mendrisio, Switzerland, with large-scale printed textiles. The installation occupies the structure's openings, adding vivid color and pattern while preserving the original facade. It references the building's past through textile imagery, creating a dialogue between history and contemporary art.
The project reframes the pre-restoration period as an active phase, using a fully reversible timber and wire system. Chromatic surfaces contrast with weathered plaster, celebrating the building's transition. This temporary intervention invites public engagement with urban transformation, proving that vacant spaces can become compelling visual experiences.
