Architecture

Casa Bonavita, a new 17-room hotel in Malta's Attard, is the culmination of a 15-year restoration by Suzanne and Christopher Sharp, founders of The Rug Company. The 18th-century limestone house blends original architectural details with hand-painted murals, antique furniture, and bespoke de Gournay wallpaper, creating a lived-in, warmly layered atmosphere that feels more like a private home than a hotel.

The gardens, revived by Christopher, are a fragrant oasis of jasmine and orange blossom with two pools, while interiors by Suzanne Sharp Studio fuse Mediterranean heritage with English and Moorish influences. A subterranean spa, open kitchen with Sicilian tiles, and restaurant serving Mediterranean fare complete the retreat—a considered balance of preservation and curated comfort.
