Designing a home on Mars collapses the usual boundary between architecture and infrastructure. In a sealed habitat, privacy, waste, and air are not utilities but structural choices. The article explores how BIG's Mars Dune Alpha and SAGA's LUNARK use layout, materials, and closed-loop systems as the core of domestic life.

What makes this compelling is the way extreme constraint pushes familiar design ideas into fresh forms. With no 'away' for refuse and no supply chain for spare parts, every square meter multiplies in consequence. The result is an urgent, beautiful argument for seeing everyday domestic systems as both life support and poetic material.
