Architecture

Atelier Guo’s Stream Restaurant in Yangshuo is a study in landscape absorption. A sweeping concrete roof follows the geometry of an engineered flood canal, its deep eaves sheltering indoor and semi-outdoor dining areas. Tapered prismatic columns lift the massive plane, while bamboo leaf impressions pressed into the board-formed concrete add a delicate, organic texture that softens the material’s monolithic weight.

The design unfolds like a Chinese landscape scroll, with a long bar where chefs perform against the rugged cliff backdrop. Visitors cross the canal to reach a teahouse nestled among trees, shifting from observer to participant in the scenery. The concrete is meant to weather gradually, letting rain and humidity mark its surface—an architecture that embraces time and terrain.
