Craft
Shot on 16mm, Finding Pegasus turns the intimate process of paper-cutting into a cinematic meditation. The film follows three elderly artists in the remote villages of Shanxi, capturing hands that carve red paper into intricate myths. Cinematographer Andy PML frames their daily rituals with quiet warmth, turning a fading folk tradition into vivid, tactile storytelling.
Beyond preserving heritage, the documentary reveals how Guo Meihua, Wang Jiru, and Liu Yulian approach their craft as living imagination. The mythical Pegasus becomes a metaphor for their ability to transcend age and circumstance. By blending observation with folklore, Finding Pegasus celebrates the ongoing creative spirit that refuses to fade, rendered with poetic precision on 16mm.
