Architecture
Ma Yansong's Lucas Museum overrides the conventional museum typology. Instead of a heavy object on a plinth, a smooth, curving volume hovers above a garden by Studio-MLA. The architecture pulls you through shaded plazas and upward into bright galleries, making the sequence itself a narrative — a fitting prelude to the story-driven art inside.
With over 40,000 works and a deliberately inclusive curatorial approach, the museum celebrates popular illustration alongside fine art. But it's the building that steals the eye: 1,200 unique FRP panels create a seamless, organic shell, while a 56-meter arch opens the ground floor back to the park. A sculptural counterpoint to the collection it houses.
