Art

Sharmistha Ray's Geometry of Play turns the pickleball courts at Pittsburgh's Arts Landing into a kaleidoscopic ground mural. Intersecting circles, triangles, and grids sprawl across the playing surfaces, creating a visual field that shifts with players' movements. The design draws from historic game boards like Pachisi, blending abstract painting with active recreation.

The rainbow palette signals inclusion and transforms every game into a temporary performance. Rather than separating art from daily life, the mural invites players to step onto its surface and become part of the composition. This commission joins seven other public artworks in a civic space designed for community engagement and cultural events.
